I am amazed the John McCain and Sarah Palin continue to talk about Joe the Plumber and how Obama will raise his taxes, although Obama has said many times that he will raise taxes only for those with incomes greater than $250,000. This figure and above applies to less than 10 percent of the population (I am pretty sure but will check this - yep, NationMaster.com figures for 2006 show only 5.63% over $100,000 - worse than I thought). Anyway Joe will get a tax decrease, and anyone else who wants to find out his tax increase or decrease under Obama can go to the Obama Tax Calculator on the web. Further, it is reported by the media that Joe the Plumber does not even have a plumber's license.
Anyway, is a 1/2 truth still a lie? When we are sworn in as a jurist it is to tell the WHOLE TRUTH, so I guess so. And does the lie get bigger, like Pinocchio's nose, each time it is told? If so, can we call this continuing discredited campaign tactic a "Big Lie"?
[The Wiki Encyclopedia defines that term as follows:
"The Big Lie is a propaganda technique. It was defined by Adolf Hitler in his 1925 autobiography Mein Kampf as a lie so "colossal" that no one would believe that someone could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously".]
I hope not. Maybe they will stop repeating it before it gets THAT big. (?)
