Well its been five days now since Fay blew in.
Its winding about and stalling has set new records for Florida as far as the amount of rainfall, flood damage etc.
There have been road accidents from people not driving according to conditions. Wet roads become as bad as icy roads when traveling at high speeds.
Most of Florida was swampland. A lot of it has been filled in and developed. Living in lowlands and places that were once swampland sets up homeowners for constant flood problems. This is what has been happening here during this storm front.
The key word for a long life here is common sense.
I turn the TV on to watch the news and I can't believe what I see. People swimming and surfing within wind jumbled ocean. The waves crash violently upon the shores and people are out there fishing, swimming and surfing.
Its their lives....I guess.
Then there are those unfortunates who let huge oak trees grow too close to their homes. Big winds and stiff unyielding wood aren't a good mixture. Huge branches break off and fall upon roofs barely missing the folks inside.
Then there's the folks who insist on driving their cars through flooded streets. They drive a short distance and their car's distributors are bound to get wet.
Another key word is preparedness. Stock up on food and water. They don't and then the scrambling begins during the storm.
Then there are those who insist on walking about barefoot in floodwaters. I guess they don't realize that those waters mix in real good with the stuff that's in the sewers. Common sense does extend itself to one's health rationale.
In closing.
A very wise man once told me...
"Forgive them. They are only human".
