SIXTY munchkins, a 20-piece orchestra, a magical tale, and of course a plucky little dog, bring The Wizard of Oz to The Nidum Arts Centre at Neath Port Talbot College.
School pupils from Alderman Davies, Waunceirch and Catwg Primary Schools play the welcoming little inhabitants of Munchkinland, with college students taking on the lead parts in the show. The much-loved classic sees sweet-natured Dorothy and her dog Toto torn from her family in Kansas by a huge cyclone and transported to an unfamiliar and frightening land of battling witches, Munchkins and an all-powerful wizard. She and her new-found, if none-too-helpful, friends set out to find the wizard, who she hopes has the power to send her back home to her folks. True to the fabulous MGM movie version this piece will be heavy on the state-of-the-art effects, so expect cyclones, impressively scary flying witches, cyclones and a gorgeous Emerald City. Toto will be played by Rocky the dog. The show is on now, continuing until Saturday, January 22.
