Today's 'Namesake Day'

I remember being called by my first and middle name, mostly by my aunt, and I knew..oh no now what did I do? How about you?
Wednesday, March 2, 2011
Most of us recoil when we hear our parents calling us by our full legal birth names, or when someone calls us by our first and middle names in such a manner that our attention is immediate and maybe even a bit fearful. We feel the full force of majesty, might and authority when our full name is invoked, so on today's 'Namesake Day' I thought we'd explore exactly why. Many cultures teach that invoking true names also evokes an ancient alchemical tradition that attaches spiritual, religious and sometimes even magical connotations to our names. This magic entails how our names emit or transmit the energy and power of your very identity. Because of the belief in the energy associated with the 'true' name, many in our modern times choose to keep their own a secret. Part of this power has to do with numerology, so if you want to access and assess the power associated with your name, begin by writing the numbers one through nine at the top of a page. Underneath that write the letters of the alphabet, starting the first line with an A under the number one and ending with the letter I under the nine. Continue to the next line and place the J under the number one and so on. You will end with the letter Z under the number eight. Next, write down your full first name given to you at birth. Above your name write the numbers for each of the vowels and directly below your name write the number for each consonant. Beneath that write all the numbers and add them up. Keep adding until you're reduced to a single digit. For example, 11 would reduce to one plus one, or two. Then do research under numerology to find a list of what your name number represents. A number one name is ruled by the Sun and is very action oriented, while number two is ruled by the moon and is highly sensitive and emotional.

I'm not "into" the letter/numerology combo thing, but I do think names have a powerful influence on one's personality and perception. Plus, I find that I predetermine the same on other people, depending on theri name. Ever since a boyhood chum, at age 13, said to me that Randy was a sissy name, I've had to deal with that. I go by Randall, my real name, a lot.

An interesting thing to do sometime is search the web with using your name. I found using my birth name how many others with same name have the same interests as I do????

I use to write under the name Martin Laurence--loved it--used it as my 'pen name'--so 'theatrical' until I went to collect my social security--never 'registered' the name--had a lot of explaining to do--but it was weird as they put my earnings under my SS # but because the name was different it caused problems--moral of the story? Keep your original name.
