Saint Anthony: Lost Things, Improves Memory, love

page: www.sacredgrove.com/1st%20anthony.htm

Saint Anthony was one of the many Saints/Role Models I had growing up. The Saints to me were real people who lived real lives and had real problems living with the convictions of their Faith.
Saint Anthony was my favorite to call upon for help with finding anything I had lost or misplaced. He still "guides" me when I ask for his help. Recently a friend from my husbands work was talking to him about how this Saint was also was very helpful in other things and she believes that it was his help that guided her through some relationship problems.
I thought to post about him today and I see his Feast Day is coming up June 13, this year it will be on a Friday...and
# 13 is his number. So perhaps Friday the 13th will be Blessed for all of us. New way to look at Fri.13!

Here's what this site has about him.

Prayer for a Miracle:

Most holy St. Anthony, gentlest of Saints, your love of God and charity for his creatures made you worthy, while on earth, to possess miraculous magical powers. Encouraged by this, I implore you to obtain for me (make your request). Your are the Saint of Miracles, Blessed Anthony, and your heart was ever full of sympathy. Present my petition to Jesus, and the gratitude of my heart will be ever yours.

Here is an interesting passage from "The Magical Power of the Saints" :
By the Rev. Ray Marlbrough,
The Prayer binder Chaplet

Rosaries, chaplets, prayer beads - whatever they are called- beads have been used for centuries as an instrument of religious devotion in Roman Catholicism and in Buddhism. Prayer beads can be wonderful tools in measuring out the time spent in prayer; devotions for each bead are represented by your recited prayers.

The standard Roman Catholic rosary, when done correctly, will aid the individual in learning to use creative visualization in conjunction with vocal prayer. In practice, when the rosary is recited the person is supposed to visualize themselves present as the mystery is unfolding or meditate on a fixed image of the mystery as they say each decade of ten Hail Mary's. To recite the standard rosary without mental visualization is considered fruitless.

Chaplets are similar to the Buddhist rosaries, and are used when invoking the assistance of a particular saint during your novena. There are chaplets of St. Anthony, St. Ann, St. Joseph, the Infant Jesus of Prague, the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and a chaplet of St. Jude. [These are just to name a few]
Naturally these chaplets include prayers to the saint to whom they are directed.

The Prayer binder Chaplet is inspired from the chaplet of St. Anthony. In using the chaplet of St. Anthony you recite for each bead an Our Father, a Hail Mary, and a Gloria, thirteen times.
The number thirteen is associated with St. Anthony.
There are thirteen full moons in a year.

Within the nine metaphysical, the Law of Three Requests states that all requests from the subtle dimensions are to be repeated in triplicate.
The first utterance alerts the conscious mind,
the second repetition engages the reasoning faculties,
while the third repetition of the prayer makes direct contact with the psyche or soul force.
For this reason all prayers or petitions are recited three times.

It has also been said about prayer that a prayer said seven times will be believed by all who hear it. However, a prayer that is said nine times will be answered by God.

Let us Pray
O God, let the votive candle commemoration of
Blessed Anthony, Thy confessor, be a source
of joy in Thy Church, that she may always be
fortified with spiritual assistance, and may
deserve to possess eternal joy.
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen

How neat. St. Anthony and St. Francis are my favorites, along with St. Monica.
