Appearances Do Count?

Appearances do count?
Some of my friends make friends on MySpace, which is a really big platform for us to know new people and I’m also a member of it. There is a strange thing I want to say with you all. Before I upload a landscape painting, and it seemed a few guys want to talk to me. Later I change my appearance, and then guess what… I suddenly got lots of friends. I know the reason, just a fictitious pretty girl helps me get more attention from them. However, now I find that I can’t stand the way we made friends—just judge others by appearance.

If you are a beautiful girl, then too many boys, no matter how old they are, want to make friends with you, and we, girls, do the same things, too. So, what’s wrong with us, what we really want is a friend or just a stunner who maybe kicks out our bored life with their loveliness.

Some people say that appearances do count, I just can’t agree with it. I just mean that we live in the real life, appearances do little, and we are the common people. And our friends are not always having the angle-face. I think that we should care more about a man’s inside when we comment on him, instead of only concerning about his appearances.

Make friends is a good thing, but never judge others just by their appearances, or you may miss your true friends.

I think you should be as attractive as possible because then more people will take the trouble to know you as you really are. You are right about the inside person but if you aren't well groomed and clean people will not
want to know you better.

Appearance, including perception of race, also matters when seeking employment. What you say about "it's what's inside that counts" is true, but we, human beings in general, need to use a sort of short-hand when making quick judgments. For example, you would be less likely to give a second thought to a guy who presents himself unwashed, wearing dirty clothes. This, of course, is not the same thing as a person being physically attractive, but it's all tied together in the brain, and difficult to separate on a moments notice. "Well, this guy isn't very good looking, but at least he's clean and well dressed". We are not quite that logical in matters of attraction.

Here I am back, something I said"appearance should be the first reason that whether we should know him"is wrong, as I haven't know whether to amend it, so here I make a P.s.....

Frankly to say, I am the girl who prefers good looking and I do care my appearance in other's eyes. What I posted maybe partial hard-core and I know that we are the common people and some times we inevitably judge others for the first sight from their appearances. And what I want to say is that appearance should be the first reason that whether we should know him. By the way, what you say really give me a lessson that I should not take a part for the whole, and as you say, we are human beings in general, so we are. Thanks a lot.

Studies have proven that people are more likely to do favors for attractive people, both at work and socially, so looks do help people get ahead in our world. But, as you say, it's important to look beyond appearance.
