It is no secret that I love going to the theatre and just reading the Broadway touring shows coming to Miami and Fort Lauderdale presented by the Bank of America gets my adrenaline going!
Following are the shows coming this season starting on October 7, 2016 with some personal remarks from me.
Miami at the Adrienne Arsht
“The Illusionists” October 11-16 2016 I am sure this is not the show Maria saw in Perth, Australia, but probably follows the same story line.
“Dirty Dancing” November 29-December 4, 2016 I saw this last season in Fort Lauderdale. It follows the movie fairly closely.
“An American In Paris” I am really looking forward to this as it is one of my favorite all time musicals and I want to see what they do with the stage version. Hopefully I will forget the vision of Gene Kelly dancing around the fountain with Leslie Caron.
“Beautiful The Carol King Musical” February 14-19, 2017 One of the best musicals of the 2015/2016 season
“Jersey Boys” April 4-2017 Have seen it 3 times—don’t know if I am ready for the 4th time.
“The King and I” May 9-14, 2017 I have not seen a professional production of this show since I originally saw it on Broadway in 1951 starring Gertrude Lawrence. The movie was a superb production and I have seen it so many times I forget how many! Nothing matches a live performance so I am looking forward to May 9, 2017.
Fort Lauderdale at the Broward Performing Arts Center.
The season opens with an extra show which is October 7-9, 2016 of “Rent” and will have a second optional show May 19-21, 2017 of “Mamma Mia!”.
“Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella” December 13-25, 2016 a delightful score and a delightful story just perfect for the holidays!
“Cabaret” January 10-22, 2017. I have a history with this show and try to be fair when reviewing it.
“Disney’s Little Mermaid” February 22-March 5, 2017 “Something Rotten” March 21-April 2 “Ronald Dahl’s Matilda” April 25-May 7, 2017 and “Finding Neverland”June 13-25, 2017 are 4 new Broadway musical shows making their debut in South Florida and I am now getting familiar with the music scores before they open.
I will be seeing the fourteen shows coming to South Florida so look for my reviews. If you are in the area or coming down for season, get your tickets now.
