Today we discovered we have major septic system problems at the Brown Palace. It gives the house name a whole new meaning. It is very possible that the 30 year old system has bitten the dust. Except it's not dusty. We have calls out to a couple of people to come give opinions. This is dire because the county regulations have probably changed since it was built and we might not be able to replace it but would have to put in a tank that has to be pumped all the time. The pumping is very expensive, and it's hard to know when the tank is getting full until too late.
Actually, I'm making it sound worse than it is. The chief symptom is very green grass over the septic tank. Remember that book? So it's not a dire emergency, but it's urgent and can't be ignored. We are hoping it is a minor thing that can be repaired.
The sale of my farm fell through, so the considerable funds to replace the septic system has to come from somewhere, and wouldn't you know it, the guy who said he didn't want to sell the neighboring parcel that I want very badly emailed and said now he's willing to sell it, so what's my offer. I'm afraid he's going to ask $100,000 for it even though it isn't a buildable lot because there is no flat ground on it. I want it because of the river frontage and the top of my driveway is included in that parcel.
So rats! It's shaping up to be a crappy week. Pun not intended, but there it is.
