Here is Las Vegas the normal annual rainfall is 4.21 inches. Parts of the country get that in a couple of days. This week a series of El Nino storms is expected to bring as much as 1/2 inch of rain to us, spread out over the week. That's a big deal here, meanwhile other parts of the country routinely get that much in an hour.
So I stayed in bed and read library books. I have been reading Alexander McCall Smith's The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series and we have the DVDs of the HBO series of the same name from Netflix. Set in Botswana, these are charming stories and fun to read. The TV show does a good job of bringing the stories to life.
Then I read The Great Gatsby in a few hours. I saw the movie years ago, but had never read the book. Written in 1925, it's interesting to but myself in that time when they were still talking about World War One, prohibition was in full swing but everybody was drinking like a fish, and the Great Depression and World War Two were not even contemplated, although one of the characters in the story mentioned agreeing with someone's theory of racial superiority.
Now I'm working on Michael Connelly's The Scarecrow. He is one of our favorite mystery authors, many of his novels concern Los Angeles detective Harry Bosch, but the protagonist in this one is newspaperman Jack McEvoy.
It's getting dark out, so time to think about should I cook some dinner. We already had canned chili today, and there's no meat thawed, so something different for dinner might have to be waffles.
I've got the laptop here in bed, so maybe I'll watch a Netflix online movie tonight. That will round out the perfect day of laziness. Tomorrow we have to go to the post office and I will work on organizing for taxes some more.
