This is Carl, the operator (extreme right, you can just see his hand), telling me what the levers do.

This is the bucket taking the crunch.

Here's the long shot.

This is how I left it, and then Carl took over.

Their goal is break everything into pieces of less than a foot so they will pack solid into the dump trucks. This is accomplished by beating on the debris with the bucket and driving the machine back and forth over it.

Se how mashed down the pile is? It contains a harvest gold kitchen stove, bathtub, toilet, large propane heater, and the table from a chrome dinette set. The wood part is made of the kitchen, a large pantry, the back porch, a bathroom, and a bedroom with closet.

This is 100 year old wallpaper.

This is probably from the 1940s. They were behind a wall cabinet.

This is a large aluminum trash can that Carl wanted to see if he could flatten like a pop can, and it worked. He says it's a fun job when they get to break things. This morning when he attacked a sofa sleeper that was on the front porch the cushions just flew up in the air.

They will have completed tearing down the upper part of the house this afternoon, and will start on the foundation tomorrow.
