Pattie Pocahontas 'Poca' Flowers Sword
Services have been set for Pattie Pocahontas Flowers Sword, "Poca," as she was known to family and friends and longtime resident of Arriola and Cortez. A viewing will be held at the Arriola Community Center on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. The funeral will follow at 10 a.m. Pastor Conway Wood will officiate. Burial will follow at Arriola Cemetery.

Pocahontas was born the seventh child to James Blackmore and Pattie Mary (Hall) Flowers on April 3, 1922, at Utleyville, Colo. She passed away Oct. 3, 2009, at the Vista Grande Inn at the age of 87. She married Marvin Andrew Sword on Aug. 30, 1949, at Perryton, Texas. Pocahontas and Marvin enjoyed many years together on the family farm at Arriola until his death in 1991. They were blessed with seven children. Pocahontas' greatest joy was her family. She also enjoyed church, reading her Bible, gardening, and traveling when she was able.

Pocahontas is survived by her sons, Steve Sword and wife Patricia, Kim Sword and wife Della; daughters, Juandell Long and husband Bud, Robbi Sword Wilson and husband Ron, Vanessa Aoun and husband Chaker; siblings, Samuel Flowers and wife Florence of Cadyville, N.Y., and Violet Waschke and husband Willie of Dove Creek; sister-in-laws, Wilma Flowers, Black Canyon, Ariz., Ann Flowers, of Anderson, Mo., and Anna (Sword) Myers of Denver; and numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Preceding Pocahontas in death were her parents, J B and Pattie Flowers; husband, Marvin Andrew Sword; son, David Arthur Sword; and daughter, Neva Zelldene (Deane) Sword Beene; and siblings, Lula Belle Hopper, Paralee Robison, Goldie Flowers, James B. Flowers Jr., Mary Flowers, Martha Flowers, Melvin (Cotton) Flowers, Gethsemane Flowers, Noble Flowers and Geneva Flowers.
