Some time back I posted the recipe for Mystery Dessert made from ice cream sandwiches. They were on sale the other day, so I bought a box and tried it.
You put the ice cream sandwiches in a pan and drizzle on chocolate syrup or other ice cream topping. I used Hershey's syrup and English Toffee ice cream topping. Then I sprinkled on some chopped walnuts because I didn't have any almonds. Next came the Cool Whip, and I put on a few more chopped walnuts. And stuck it in the freezer. It was so easy and silly to make I felt a little foolish.
It was really, really good, but it wasn't mysterious - it looked like ice cream sandwiches with whipped cream on top. It was one of those instances where the sum of the parts transcends each part's contribution. Maybe that's the mystery: how can something so simple taste so good?
Some time in the future I will try making it with mint chocolate chip ice cream sandwiches.
