The step looking things are fancy suites, too fancy for us to be invited to stay in, and I've never stayed there, but have been to their Cirque d' Soileil show, Ka.
At night the outside glows green, like the Emerald City, because it used to have a Wizard of Oz theme. There was a walk-through display with life-size figures from the movie - Dorothy, Toto, et. al. Then they took it out, put slot machines there, and added a habitat for lions.

It is sound-proof so the lions can't hear us. They loll around all day and take a lot of naps. During the day they are rotated every four hours from a farm somewhere, and there are a lot of them so they get a lot of rest in between being on display. If we're lucky we'll get there when they are playing. There are trainers in the enclosure who interact with them when the lions want to, mostly making sure they can get to their toys or feeding them. The lions don't do tricks.

A couple of years ago there was a news item about a couple of prostitutes getting into a brawl at the MGM's front desk, so we always go check it out when we are there, just in case of a sequel.
