It's like Living in Seattle

It's an upside-down summer, and I don't mean my tomato plant. We are getting rain every day, and wake up to overcast conditions while up in Seattle it's 100 degrees. Usually the sun shines almost every day in Colorado, even in the winter, so us natives are not used to a lot of gloomy weather. If we get a rainy day, we go back to bed with a book and wait until tomorrow when the sun will be out to continue with our lives. If there is a series of rainy days, we become depressed because we have things to do, but don't feel like doing them.

That's where I was yesterday - down in the dumps because here it was the middle of summer and 50 degrees outside, totally overcast, rain predicted, almost turn-on-the-furnace weather. So I left the mountains yesterday and went down to the plains to see how the weather was there. It was breezy, a little humid, and a very pleasant 70 some degrees. That's one thing nice about this summer, it's not so hot all the time.

When I got home, the sun was brightly shining, but 5 minutes earlier it had been pouring rain. My first little zucchini had stopped growing and was rotting on the vine from all the rain. I picked it at 2 inches long and ate the good part. There are other 2 inchers that I will keep an eye on. Maybe it will be the summer of the baby zucchini recipes.
