Now I'm living in Colorado.
We drove through lots of rain and snow and came up through Utah, then across Wyoming. This is about 90 miles longer than cutting across Colorado on I-70, but we were avoiding some worse weather in the central mountains.
Buddy the Interstate Cat and Mr. Troutbend are going to stay in Las Vegas for several more weeks.
I'm just glad to be home. Photos to follow.
Mr. Troutbend, who drove me here, car loaded with my stuff, no room for the cat and all his gear, stuck around for a few days. We watched some recorded Chopped episodes and "How the States Got Their Shapes" on the History Channel. He started the pilot light in the rental cabin, sawed up some wood, and checked the level on the propane tank. Today he left for Denver where he'll stay overnight with the senior Troutbends (aka The Munchkins) and leave for Las Vegas from there tomorrow morning. That'll give him a 90 minute head start, which will make his day shorter.
So now I am waiting for the first hummingbird to show up at my feeders. I will be working on my container vegetable garden. I have a new larger planter, and will have lots of tomatoes, zucchini, sweet peppers, and cucumbers in a few months if I am lucky. Last frost date in this area is the end of May, so by then my seedlings will be a nice size. I am thinking of rigging up some kind of tent arrangement with a lightbulb inside to fool the plants into the thinking the nights are warmer than they are.
In the meantime, the whole house needs cleaning, but I will pace myself, none of this stressing out over a little dust, I'll work on it over the course of a week.
It's just so nice to be home!
