I made some applesauce today, and it was so easy I am ashamed of myself because I have this feeling that someone here on MyBloggers at one time said how easy it is to make, and I didn't pay any attention.
Someone gave me a bagful of lovely apples this weekend, but they were all very small and I didn't relish the thought of peeling them for pies. I cut the cores out and simmered them for about 10 minutes and they were ready to run through the food mill. In case you don't know what that is, it is a contraption with holes in the bottom and you turn a crank to push the apples (or whatever) through the holes and the peels stay behind.
Then I added some sugar and cinnamon, and that was it. All done. Lovely applesauce. I don't know what kind of apples those were, something old-fashioned, but they didn't hold up in cooking, just turned to mush, so perfect for sauce, and might not have been good in a pie by themselves.
All told, it took about 15 to 20 minutes.
