Not me. I just read the book "Confessions of a Shopaholic" by Sophie Kinsella. There is a whole series of Shopaholic books, and I'll see if I can track more of them down. It is a funny story, set in London (the movie is based in New York, not as charming), and reminds me of Bridget Jones' Diary, or what I think the Bridget Jones book would be like, having only seen the movie. At least the Shopaholic one doesn't have a plot stolen from Jane Austen like Bridget Jones.
Anyhow, I can think of one of our MyBloggers friends who is so like the Shopaholic, and not just the shopping part, but the part about pining for a career she'd love instead of a job she hates, and the sweet, ever-optimistic personality. I'm just about ready to get her mailing address and send it to her.
I needed some comic relief.
In my pursuit of working my way through the 4000 used paperbacks in my back yard retreat I've been reading a lot of spy novels, murder mysteries, and just plain novels written in the 1960s - 1970s. One was about the revolution in Cuba, another dealt with the evils of the just-introduced birth control pill, another was The Chapman Report about sex studies like the Kinsey Report. It was made into a movie starring a young Jane Fonda, among others. Efram Zimbalist Jr. was the young love interest.
Anyway, as interesting as it is to pretend it is 1959 and I have just bought the latest best seller that will keep me up all night turning pages, the hot, sexy topics of 40 and 50 years ago can get a little dry, so a fluffy today book was a nice change.
And really, although the movie is not as good as the book, it's not bad for a fluffy chick flick romantic comedy.
