I was just now rummaging around in a box of office supplies here and found a dinner ring that I didn’t know I’d misplaced. I guess I thought it was with my other jewelry, so sometime I would go to looking for it, and it wouldn’t be there.
Years ago when we lived in the Denver area, I would take my 'good' jewelry – mostly an amethyst brooch and this ring — and hide them somewhere in the house. Years later I would come across them, one time in the drawer of rubberbands in the wet bar area, and another time hidden behind the leg of a dresser in the bedroom. Good thing I hadn’t wanted to find them, because I’d completely forgotten where I’d put them. I can remember thinking ‘I’ll never think to look here’ at the time I was putting something there, and sure enough I never did think to look there so it was lucky I eventually came across it.
At one point I was just positive I’d lost this particular ring, even thought I saw it in a jeweler’s window in Colorado Springs, but I guess it must have been one just like it, because I later found mine. And now I’ve found it once again.
This particular dinner ring came from my Aunt Eleanor, who never got married. She had tons of costume jewelry with a few real items mixed in. When she died they set up 5 card tables in the living room and laid it all out on there for us to go around and pick what we wanted. What wasn't chosen ended up in a bushel basket in the basement when my cousins moved into the house, and now my nutty cousin Elly Roselle has a lot of it. She would share with me if I wanted.
So right now, this ring is on my hand, and in a minute I'm going to go upstairs and try to figure out where the other jewelry is 'safely' hidden so I can put it there.
