Things I’ve learned since I’ve gotten older:
1. I’ve learned that I can still get carded. Yep, now it’s my AARP card, but I’m still getting carded when I ask for the “senior citizens special.â€
2. I’ve learned that my roots are no longer dark blond, but a whitish color. I’m going to keep blonde forever though, that’s my goal. Never let them see white.
3. I’ve learned that I cannot break dance. I think that’s self explanatory.
4. I’ve learned that a nice glass of wine and a sunset are to be savored especially with the one you love or with a good friend.
5. I’ve learned to love each minute I live with much more gusto than I did before.
6. I’ve learned to be grateful every morning I wake up. I am blessed with health and vitality and those things are fragile to say the least.
7. I’ve learned that I need to have a will and make sure my spouse knows where everything is – just in case of any unforeseen problems.
8. I’ve learned that most of the things I face in life are minor. I’ve been through so much major and I’ve survived without breaking. I know I can handle what life offers even if it is rotten. Much has been rotten, however there are moments that make life so worth living. Moments like the day I was married, the day my sons were born, the day I saw the Grand Canyon for the first time, the day I last kissed my mother goodbye. The day I graduated from college. The day I found out my first book would be published. Much is good. Much is worth living for.
9. I’ve learned that you have very few true friends on earth – people who have your back and are worth trusting. These are people you can usually count on one hand and they are the people you will know for life. They will be there when you are in trouble as you are for them. These are friends – committed and true and you don’t have many, so you must cherish the ones that you do have.
10. Finally, I’ve learned that there is still much to learn in life. I am 58 years young and really in the scheme of things…just a baby. Life, no matter what it’s surprises is still good and worth living.
