Plantar Fascitis - Hopefully Gone Now?

If you don't know what that is, it is a tendon that connects the front of the foot to the heel and it can get very very inflamed, under the right circumstances. Such as: all my walking that is now at an abrupt end.

The pain started in August and has done nothing but get worse throughout the rest of 2009 until now. Yes, it feels like you are walking on needles. Yes, there were times that first step in the morning brought me either crashing to the floor or hopping on one foot till I had a moment to stretch out.

Thank heavens for yoga. It does help.

Today, after the hoops I had to jump through with my insurance company were finally all jumped, I got to go to a real live podiatrist. What a pleasure! What a great guy and very caring. He told me what I knew, I am the poster child for plantar fascitis pain! No heel spur, just a very aggravated tendon that hurts like I'm getting skewered by a hot pole every time I walk.

He told me that he wanted to give me some help...a shot in the bottom of my heel! Ugh, the thought made me nauseous, but he also told me that th epain would go away in a couple of days with this shot. It is cortisone. The nurse brought in a freezing spray and I watched him load the needle. I was already queasy at this point. Before he put in the needle she started to spray my heel. Surprisingly it really did numb it completely. He slipped the needle in and I didn't even feel it...at first. Then he hit the inflammation and for just a second, I about jumped out of my skin. I lived. Still waiting for the foot to feel better.

He says a couple of days should make a big difference. Why can't it be tomorrow already! I hate needles, but if this works, I'll willingly go back every 6 months to live without the pain. 5 seconds of a needle is nothing compared to what I've gone through.

I'll get back to you on the results! Later.
