My Box of Chocolates Talk

Only what is really depressing is that when you have GERD, chocolate, especially the dark chocolate doesn't go down to well. Sometimes I just have to eat it anyway, though.

Okay, it's Wednesday, I'm finished with "work" for the day and I'm sitting here wondering what the heck I'm going to talk about. Unfortunately I'm extremely limited in my subject matter. So, let me say that the truth is that Forest Gump had it right. Life is like a box of chocolates and you never know what you're going to get.

Actually, you just have to live one moment at a time and one day at a time. Don't worry about the future because, Lord knows, that will come in time. Pretty soon it's the future and then the future becomes the present. (Don't know if that makes sense.) Anyway, in my estimation I think there are a few truths that I've learned in my 1/2 a century of living and I wanted to share a few of them.

1. What goes around comes around -- This is without a doubt one of the greatest truths I've learned. If you plant weeds, guess what's going to grow? You got it more weeds -- no roses. So, you have to concentrate on planting good things even when people are hateful to you. The good stuff? Well, eventually and it may not be how you expect it, good things will come back.

2. Smile and the world smiles with you -- I've come to work in the a.m. and there are times I have the perfect reason to be well, grumpy. I slept wrong, I had a bad night, I'm just cranky, you know the drill. When I get to work, I put on my good face -- no matter what the heck is going on and smile. Yeah, I might be having a bad morning, but I don't need to inflict my gray skies on other people. Who knows, I might be smiling at someone who had a real reason to be down. Maybe my smile will brighten their day.

3. A little kindness goes a long way -- Kindness seems almost forgotten in this ugly world. Just giving someone a hug, or an encouraging word, or giving them a card saying you're thinking of them are tiny little kindnesses which add up in your "what goes around comes around" account. Trying to be understanding even when someone is persecuting or acting out against you. That's definitely a good thing as well.

4. Some people, you'll just never agree with, so "agree to disagree" - You know what, liberals and conservatives will never agree. Certain religions will never agree, certain ethnicity's,male vs. female, (you get the gist) etc. etc. Who cares! You can argue yourself blue in your face and the other person's face, but it isn't going to make a difference, so why don't you just "agree to disagree." Then you can smile and wave and each of you are allowed your own opinion. Life is so much better when you aren't constantly trying to "make someone see it your way!"

Okay, there are more of these, but these are the truths I've learned so far that really stand out to me. I am sure most of you have your own truths. Some of you have lived longer than me and you are more venerable. I'm not done yet. The glorious thing about living is that there is always more to learn.

Have a great Wednesday!
