We are in San Antonio, having arrived about three this afternoon. After resting a bit, we met Bevan's brother and his family for an early dinner.Â
His brother is in the military and is stationed here after doing a tour in Iraq. Tomorrow, we plan to do some sightseeing. Our hotel is right on the Riverwalk, which is nice. The lights are really lovely reflecting off the water. There will be a big New Year's Eve celebration tomorrow evening on the Riverwalk.
I will try to get pictures tomorrow. There are some cathedrals that I want to visit, some that are over 300 years old with spectacular gold leafing and gorgeous statues. I also want to visit the Spanish governor's mansion.Â
The last time I was here I didn't get to those, having to defer to the kids' wishes to go to Sea World and Fiesta Texas.
Of course we all know the story of The Alamo when Texas and Mexico each claimed the land between the Trinity River and the Rio Grande as its own. Though the Texans lost that battle at the Alamo, they won the war, making San Antonio and the land southward part of the new Republic of  Texas.
