The weekend sighting of Angelina Jolie with her long-estranged dad Jon Voight in Venice caused big buzz, but their reconciliation actually started ''a few months ago, after many long talks between Jon and Angie,'' a longtime Voight associate told me Sunday.

The source said it was all about Voight firmly promising -- ''over and over and over again'' -- that he would never again talk to the press about any personal things involving Brangelina or their kids.

''I get the impression Jon is so anxious to have a relationship with Angie [Brad Pitt] and his grandchildren, he guaranteed he would really be careful about all future comments,'' indicating Jolie even demanded her father make his pledge in writing.

I am glad she was open to reconciliation with her father. He deserves to know his grandchildren and to be part of their lives as well as to be part of his daughter's life.

The wounds of the past always need to be addressed. To ignore them only causes more resentment and misunderstanding to foment.
