I'm
not really a Pro football fan. Maybe I would be if we had a pro team
in our state. I used to be a real Dallas Cowboy fan back in the days of Dandy
Don Meredith and some of the other colorful characters who played. I
stayed with them through the Roger Staubach era and on into the Troy
Aikman days.
However,
I lost interest after Jerry Jones kept micro-managing the team. He
almost drove this team into extinction before he finally realized that
he had better "butt out" and let the coaches do the coaching.Â
Now,
we're in the Tony Romo era. I just don't have the enthusiasm for them
that I once had. I might have watched part of a couple of games this
season. But, it seems there's too much in-fighting now. Everybody's
out of himself--not the team. And it has really shown this year.
But
I will watch the Super Bowl. I don't really have a favorite. I'll
probably pull for the Arizona Cardinals simply because they aren't
supposed to be there. Last year, I supported the Giants for that
reason. Plus, I wanted to see Eli Manning finally emerge from the
shadow of big brother. Which he did in fine fashion.
I
hope that Kurt Warner has a big game. It did my heart good to see the
"old man" set the smart-ass kid from Southern Cal down on the bench.Â
But,
I'll have to save a few cheers for Ben Roethlisberger too. His little
sister is a starter on the #3 ranked OU women's basketball team.
H-m-m-m! Come to think of it. Maybe I am more of a fan than I realized.
