She has a dry sense of humor that sometimes can make me laugh at the most bizarre things.
As
I started to relay the news, I said, "It was a holiday today in
Holland to honor Queen Julianna's birthday, and the royal family was
riding in an open bus down the parade route.

"Oh, so they were having a "Hollandday"! she remarked.
As I smiled, I said, "Yes, but this crazy guy tried to ram his car into their bus."
"Now,
why would anyone want to hurt the royal family of Holland?" she asked.Â
"Did they plant the wrong color of tulips this year?"

I
then finished telling her the story and that five people were killed.Â
She just could not believe it. Fortunately the bus in which the royal
family was not hit as the man lost control and plowed into a
monument.  Seriously injured himself, he admitted he was targeting the
royal family. The man, who had no previous police record, had recently
lost his job and was about to be evicted from his home.

Police, who found no explosives in his car nor at his home, believe the man acted alone.
The
festivities for the remainder of the day were cancelled. Queen
Beatrix, shaken and making a rare television appearance later in the
day, expressed her shock and her deep condolences to the families who
lost loved ones.

A sad day for the beautiful country and normally peaceful people of Holland.
