Wow! Yesterday was a frightening day for scores of Oklahomans as well as thousands of school children. Sadly, at least eight souls lost their lives in Lone Grove about 100 miles south of OkC as unusual tornadoes formed quickly along a line stretching from border to border in central Oklahoma. Â
The tornadoes struck with little warning as a rapidly descending cold front collided with warm, most air pumping north from the Gulf of Mexico.
Enjoying unseasonably warm weather with temperatures across the state near 80 ,students in the Oklahoma City metro were about to be dismissed when tornado sirens suddenly began blasting throughout Oklahoma City and in surrounding suburbs, Yukon, Edmond, and Moore.
Schools all over the metro immediately went into disaster mode, locking down and moving students to safe areas. Many were still in safe areas at their schools at 5:00 p.m. At least three tornadoes touched down in the Metro; hail the size of tennis balls fell in Yukon while scores of businesses and home sustaiined damage throughout the area. Power lines snapped and trees were snapped and yanked from the soil.Â
Two other tornadoes, the deadly one at Lone Grove in addiition to a twister at Pawnee, also struck.
