Planning

We are planning to take a exploratory trip to the top of Peavine. It should be another of those "experiences." Since we live on the south border of the mountain, we shall have to circumnavigate to the north side in order to access the appropriate dirt road.

In the process we might just wander up to Border Town and take the Long Valley Road to Crystal Peak and then down Dog Valley Road back into Verdi.

This trip will be made on dirt or gravel roads and we just might have to back track due to the very, very dry conditions in the mountains these days.

It did rain a bit last night, so the roads may be open momentarily, if at all.

The area we are going to explore was used for mining in the very late 1800's and early 1900's. Actually, there is still some mining activity there, but on a very small scale.

I was not surprised to find gold and silver mining, but was surprised to find that they also mined for copper and crystal.

Archaeologists from both the feds and the State of Nevada have found artifacts on Peavine that indicate the existence of Paiute Indian villages on it slopes.

Should be an interesting run.
