Twinkies in Jello

I've always wanted to make this recipe, so the possible demise of the Twinkie motivated me to try it.

Twinkies in Jello

Make Jello according to the package directions. Chill it until slightly thickened. Arrange Twinkies in a shallow dish.

Pour the Jello over them.

Cover and refrigerate overnight.

This is how they looked the next day.

Serve with whipped cream.

How did it taste? Like raspberry Jello with whipped cream on top, with the textural difference of the Twinkies. Would I make it again? No. But now I know that for sure.

Comments:

Stick a strawberry on that whipped cream and you'd have a Twinkie Trifle.

It needed something, that's for sure. I had envisioned the cake part still being yellow and dry inside. This might have been achieved if I'd thought harder and chilled the Jello until almost set and pouring it a-r-o-u-n-d the Twinkies instead of over them. The original recipe, called Undescended Twinkies, is from Jane and Michael Stern of Roadfood fame.
