Pie Cherries

I just love making pies with those sour pie cherries. Short of finding a tree to pick them fresh, the next best is frozen ones. Every summer I buy a couple of buckets of them and freeze for pies.

Last week when I realized that the electricity to my house was not going to be restored after the flooding, I knew the cherries would have to be thrown out.

It broke my heart, and still brings a tear to my eye to think about all those lovely pies floating down the river. And all that money spent on buying them.

My goodness, another loss to regret. Those cherries are not easy to
come by.

I'm still crying about it.

In my pie-loving mind's eye, I'm seeing you rushing to bake up all those pies and watching two cat carriers leaving your house when your rescuers arrived, one with Eloise and the other filled with pies....

I did, too. But kept thinking about how much generator propane would be consumed during the time they were baking.

It was indeed a sad waste, and that's exactly what I did when I told Mr. Kitchentales: "Honey, boo-hoo, hoo, I had to throw my cherries in the river." He didn't realize they were frozen because I had put them in canning jars, so he was surprised.
