Catching Up

Do you call it Catsup or Ketchup?

I googled Catsup vs Ketchup and found a great website, Compare Anything that sets out to tell us the difference.

According to them, "Ketchup" is the most used term for that red sauce in the bottle, worldwide. "Catsup" is more common in southern United States, Mexico, and South America. (I can hardly picture it being served in Mexico - they have much better salsas than that.)

I have to tell you, I always think of it as Catsup.

By the way, that website compares more than food - they cover just anything you could think of.

It's been ketchup to me, but I stopped buying it some years ago after discovering this recipe for tomato chutney. Fantastico! Check it out:

There's healthy catsup - fancy ones, too. It's not all Heinz.

I know how to get catsup out of a tomato. It takes lots of spices and simmering. My mother used to make and can it.

That's one of the things I've never been tempted to make at home - to me, it's an ingredient, not a destination.
