Another Wedding

Another great friend was Ken , he was another one that I remember fondly , when he was holding sway everyone would stop and listen, he had a very dry sense of humor and was a favorite at the hotel for spinning a great story . At lodge when he came up to be honored we had to hire another hall , ours held about 70, but knowing how popular he was a larger one was needed ended up with 130 attending which made for a real great night.
HE was 45 then, another Batchelor and lived at home with his mother, had a steady government job all in all he was a good guy, Friday nights he played up , he only drank beer until it was about time to go home then switched to rum, had one or two and then called a pizza shop to order one , then called a taxi to go home picking up the pizza en route
Then Kaye entered the scene, became a member of the social club at the hotel, a mate of skinny Carols and she was divorced , Kaye was a very pleasant lady, always smiling and her laugh was worth bottling, her and Ken got on well together, we knew something was up when he forgave his rum and stayed drinking with Kaye and Carol on Fridays till closing time.
Don”t know why they pick on me, but a few months later Ken asked me to be best man at his wedding to kaye, of course I agreed , this time I knew that all would go well not like Peter's and it certainly did.
We met in the hotel lounge one evening to discuss things for the big event , the ceremony was to be held at phils the barmans house when he offered them the use of his extra large garage, it was also to be a formal wedding which meant wearing a suit – shirt and tie –haven't got a suit I put in, no worries Ken said he would pay for hiring the suits. ( I liked that bit ) 6pm the time, phil said if it rained it wouldn't matter as the garage had a large veranda, a few other details were nutted out then I left them when the guest list was being discussed that was one headache I didn't need,
The big day arrived old sol put on great weather I went over to Kens to get dressed and then onto Phils, as I have said Ken was very popular and it showed , there were uninvited people there as well as the guests in about equal numbers. kaye arrived dressed in a blue ensemble, she looked lovely , music was played as she made her way over to us and stood along side Ken who had a smile on his dial a mile wide , facing each other during the ceremony, I had a bet with myself who was going to laugh first, and it was Kaye who giggled when after giving the wedding ring to Ken he placed it on her finger.
Of course everyone clapped and gave them their best wished , after we had signed the registry book we had a quick discussion with Phil who had taken time off to attend , and it was he that apologized to those uninvited ones by saying on behalf of Ken he was inviting them back to the hotel and Ken was putting on a keg, needless to say that went down well .
We all settled in and the rest of the evening was spent in the usual way , me giving a speech , Ken responding and a good time was had by all, and if I had a bottle I might have had trouble putting the cork in, KAYE laughed all night along side Ken.
