Have a wound just below my left eye , it's been there for a month or more and I can't get it to heal , thinking it might be an melanoma I went to doctor, he had a look and refered me to skin specialist,
it was at a clinic I had been before who bulk billed for medicare meaning I get treated for free.
Now I usually ask about if they bulk bill and if not find one who does, in this case I presumed this clinic still did , after treatment this this morning which included sample of skin for biopsi and a stich doctor told me he would let me know the results by phone but did not think it was a melanoma.
Much to my surprise I got a bill for $145 handed to me , and no they don't bulk bill but medicare will refund me $85, they will fill out and send the form to them for me.
All those specialists I saw the last six months did bulk bill , in future will definitely ask who does,
to explain how it works , the doctors and medicaire agree on a charge for each service given to a patient , the amount agreed to is classified as bulk bill and free for patient , the doctor recieves from medicare the agreed sum for services,
Not all specialists and doctors do this, higher fees are charged by those who don't and must be paid after treatment, in today’s case just as well I had my credit card with me
