I was asked why I don't like the Olympic Games, as they are today.
The Olympics were for amateur athletics.
That was quite some time ago.
Now they are not the true Olympics in my eyes.
They took away Jim Thorpe's Olympic medals (way back) because it was discovered that he earned a few paltry dollars playing for a semi-pro team down on the reservation. Decades later, after he was cold in his grave, they gave them back.
The scandalous changes in the "Olympic spirit" that have brought professional athletes to the fore have ruined the games. Now they are adding golf to the 2016 games in Brazil. Tiger Woods, a billionaire now, will complete for medals.
Imagine!
They did drop baseball. That's too bad in a way but good in another way. I just could not stomach seeing Alex Rodriguez, another multi-millionaire, getting a gold medal with his professional team for beating the crap out of Taiwan or Senegal.
I only watch the skiing during the Winter Olympics. The athletes in the ski competition are still mostly amateurs, and they compete as individuals against the mountains.
As for the Games, they are all about money. Nothing more. Nothing less.
There is no "sport" there anymore.
