I went to meet "WOW" there, as we planned, and as it was pretty cool outside (64F at six o'clock) I wore a wine colored shirt, matching tie, dark V-neck and my black leather "dress" jacket. All you had to do was walk outside to know how cold it already was!
After jockeying for a close parking space near the restaurant, I walked over the footbridge and meandered around in the crowd, looking for her. I noticed that most of the people were dressed for summer,in short sleeves and skimpy warm-weather garb. They were all folding their arms and had goosebumps.
I found "WOW" with her ever-present container of light beer near the tables where you got refills. She wore jeans, a rolled-up sleeve thin sweater and was shivering.
The gentleman that I am doffed the leather and slung it around her shoulders. It was welcomed. We wandered together and soon settled near the far river bank to listen to one of the awful bands. After an hour of that we saw some folks we knew and went to join them.
The young man we knw remarked to me, "Jon, you sure look over-dressed for an island party."
He shivered as he spoke.
"WOW" said, "At least he came prepared. He even gave me his coat."
"But it's August!" One of the other women said as she clutched her man against her goose-bumped bare shoulder.
I noticed that I was the only one of the group wearing shoes. They all wore flip-flops, including my stunning "WOW."
I had no intention of offering her my footwear.
Anyway, we wandered some more and went inside to get some dinner. By that time the party out on the island was really getting on and the music seemed to improve.

We had some appetizers and dessert and she finally said she wanted to go back for another drink before she went home. Had to make a breakfast Sunday morning at 8:00 and she wanted to get to bed.
That, of course, excited her escort, so we returned for one more drink before I walked her to her car.
She gave me a really warm all-body kiss, gave me my jacket, opened her door and said: "Gotta run. Thanks! I'll call you."
I went back to the island and had a G & T before I went off to find my car and go home.
