Last night after watching the Oregon Ducks tromp all over fifth-ranked USC, I turned back all the clocks and my wristwatch one hour and went to bed. This morning I ended up getting out of bed an hour early anyway. Go figure.

The white coating on the still-wet leaves that once ahain cover my lawn indicated that I put on a very warm coat before going out with the coffee and walking down to the river to toss bread to the ducks and geese. I believe we have had a light frost in October, but this was a hard frost.

Then I came back and switched this computer into "Go" mode. The emails were mostly off Facebook and MyBloggers. There was one direct email from our old friend, Frank Dixon, who inhabited the old Blogster with his beautifully written segments from his work on a nonfiction book. Frank's email announced that his book, "Spinoza's God," is going to be published by Alondra Books!

That is wonderful news! If you missed his pieces, Frank Dixon is my choice for "Expert" level recognition on Spinoza, one of history's great philosophers.

I have a painting on an easel that is driving me nuts. It is a cluster of delicately colored orchids against a dark background. Every time I look at my progress I want to grab the Gesso jar and paint it over, but I refuse to give up.

I left the porch light on last evening for trick or treats, but nobody came. If you read a previous post you will understand what happened. I have lots of Reese's Peanut Butter cups, so there.

Brunch day for me and Mom. It is very cold, and yesterday I told her to dress warm. Five-to-one she will be dressed for July when I get there.

How about Iowa and Oregon in the Rose Bowl?
