The Baltimore Crows get an extra bye week tomorrow night on MNF when they play the Browns. LOL (and at my own team's expense!) If you can't laugh over sports, you have a humanity problem.

The Baltimore team is the one that skeedaddled out of Cleveland back in 1996 when the owner, Art Modell, got a secret deal from Baltimore to build a new stadium. Cleveland refused to do it, so Modell took his players and gear and went to Maryland.

The city of Cleveland sued Modell and the NFL and won a new franchise. They also won the rights to the team name and records, colors and any mention of the former team.

Unfortunately, the new owners put the wrong people in charge and as a result we have had 10 years of awful football. Poor drafting, poor free agent signings and terrible selections of coaches have done this.

The last two years the team has traded away the wide receivers and now they blame the poor passing game on the quarterbacks who have nobody to throw to except rookies.

Monday night will be very important because finally Brady Quinn is THE quarterback. That's good. He needs to play all the games.

It will also be important because the owner of the team, Randy Lerner, is talking to Mike Holmgren (former Packer coach and Seattle coach) to assume the reins and be the real leader (not the coach.) A successful football franchise needs a damn good front office guy who knows talent, and Holmgren does.

Whether or not he accepts is still up in the air. I hope he does.

I'll tell you who I would like for a coach... and NEVER any more of Bill Belicheck's old assistants! (Mangini and Crennel were. And they stink!)

I would like them to fire Mangini and hire Troy Aikman. Aikman is a true pro football intellect and would make a wonderful coach. He knows talent and he especially knows QBs.

My alma mater football team from Hopewell-Loudon High School lost in their second 2009 playoff game last night against Bucyrus Wynford. Last week the beat the number one team, Mcdonald, on Mcdonald's home field. Five years in a row the HL Chieftains went to the playoffs and two of those years saw them advance to the state championship game. They lost both, but for a small consolidated country school those were great achievements. Good luck, boys and we'll be buying tickets next year!
