"We are pleased to announce that Mike Holmgren has agreed to join the Cleveland Browns," team owner Randy Lerner said in a statement.
Holmgren, 61, took the Packers to two Super Bowls and won in 1997 against the New England Patriots. The San Francisco native then led Seattle to the Super Bowl in 2006 where they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Browns have slumped to 3-11 under embattled head coach Eric Mangini this season. It is unclear what duties Holmgren will have as president, but media reports have suggested he may take direct control over football affairs, in a role similar to that enjoyed by Bill Parcells at the Miami Dolphins.
