I was invited to attend the Tiffin Art Guild 5:50 meeting of the Board of Directors. The General Meeting followed at 7:00. So I went and was asked to rejoin the Board, which I consented to.
During the meeting I proposed that the Guild appoint a non-paid Curator. The person would run the gallery's art display and the front window displays. That's all. Also I proposed a person to run the classes and education program. Also an Events chairperson.
The Board agreed. Then I promptly got appointed as Curator.
Aha! Now I can impose the rules that should always have been there!
1. All art must be suitably framed.
2. All art that is framed must have suitable hangers affixed to the back.
3. All art must be situated by the Curator, with photos in the narrow hallway and paintings and larger works in the various larger rooms.
4. All prints and watercolors must be matted and if not framed covered professionally with acetate or clear plastic (NOT Saran wrap!) and situated in the Prints-for-sale box.
and my idea to bring-in more members:
5. Non members may exhibit artwork at the Gallery, but the commission of sales for non-members will be 40% instead of the 25% for members.
I told them that I would be kind. I also suggested a membership drive. As the Guild is now in its fourth year, and that is when most clubs diminish and fail, I want to energize the group to seek and sign-up new members, particularly young people.
