Kennedy who founded the Peace Corps and went on to play a major role in President Lyndon Johnson's Great Society, has died, according to ABC and CNN. He was 95.
Shriver suffered from Alzheimer's disease for most of the past decade. He was the widower of JFK's sister, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, who founded Special Olympics. She died in 2009, shortly before Sen. Edward Kennedy. Take a look at the Kennedy family tree here.
Shriver's life was spent mostly as a crusader for peace, justice and equal opportunity. He made two efforts at political office -- as a failed vice presidential candidate with George McGovern in 1972 and as a Democratic presidential candidate in 1976.
