Harry 'taken prisoner' on TV show

Channel 4 is to show a "dramatised documentary" based on what would happen if Prince Harry were taken prisoner serving in Afghanistan.

The 90-minute film, called The Taking of Prince Harry, features contributions from former hostages and intelligence experts.

It includes scenes showing the prince, played by actor Sebastian Reid, being held behind enemy lines while negotiations are carried out to free him.

Harry, younger son of the Prince of Wales, served in Afghanistan's Helmand province.

His presence in the country was hush-hush because of worries that he could become a Taliban target if it became widely known that he had been deployed.

He spent 10 weeks working as a forward air controller until his cover was blown on the internet. Harry was flown home in February 2008 when the secret was leaked.

The actor playing the prince is shown facing a mock execution at the hands of his captors and being made to appear in Taliban and al Qaida propaganda.

Channel 4's head of documentaries, Hamish Mykura, said the broadcaster had informed Buckingham Palace about the film, but had not had any response.

Mr Mykura said he did not think that making the film increased the risk of potential high-profile kidnappings. And he said the Taliban had already discussed targeting the Prince when it emerged he had served in the country.

He said: "I think it is just wrong to say that this would create a new idea that wasn't there already."

Since the Royals are so important to the British citizenry, they probably
should not serve.

I don't like any war and like you (I read your post a little earlier today) I too, disagree with the recent conflicts abroad.
I read in disbelief this 'dramatised documentary' that will be shown on television! I do not think that the families of any, fallen soldiers, will appreciate it. It ought not to be shown. I hope the palace will do something about it. It is in very bad taste.
I had a think about your comment. As I see it, all through British history when there has been conflict (with a couple of exceptions of the last century), a King/Queen (Elizabeth 1st) or Prince, has led the troops out to battle. Although she didn't 'fight', even the present Queen (when she was still a princess) joined the A.T.S. during the last world war.
I think that the presence of a member of the Royal Family risking his life or limb too, gives the troops a morale boost.
But, in a 'perfect' world, I would prefer not to see any, bloodshed
