- Have never, heard of one of these before - the electric 'perm rods', yes (my mum told me about them - she was born in 1914 and went off to 'Bath' in Somerset as it was then, to work 'in service' to a Lord Wright, who lived in 'Royal Crescent') Fora young girl leaving a small isolated Welsh village, it must have been quite a 'culture shock', I think it was then, that she had her first 'perm')! (She told me of so many stories of her time there).
Whilst I have been reading about the Victorians (the articles are written by folks at that time), the such 'perfect' speech they used (most times in a kind of 'sneering' way, I think, when they were speaking about the 'poor' people, which I detest), was so descriptive. There is one article in particular, that describes the most 'horrendous' living conditions - the descriptive manner really 'transports you there'. The only trouble is, I can not, find it again - the site is so big, unless I save it, it is imposible to remember
