Dilemma

Remember the "Hostile Boss" ? Well, my dilemma is this.

While one area of the job is causing me physical pain and stress, there's a project that I developed that I absolutely love doing...the clients love it as well. No one else in the company wants to take it on and I don't have coverage for it if I leave, so if I go, it dies...

I could continue to work on just this project and not the other areas, but I would remain in a company with a boss that will never stop the toxic ranting about everyone who pisses her off...which is eventually everyone in the company.

If I work for a company and a boss that has this personality, am I automatically associated with that person's behavior? Am I representing her? One friend said that if I continue to work for her, I am considered to be aligned with her and therefore participating in her bad behavior.

But what about the work I do with the clients? They are getting so much benefit from this and when I'm in that zone with them, nothing else seems to matter. It just feels so good to do this work.

This is my dilemma...do I stay and do the piece of the job that I love or do I cut the cord 100% and leave it all behind...and move forward with my project on my own?

Any thoughts?

We are each responsible for our own behavior. When we put up with the bad behavior of others, we enable them to continue in it, but we do not represent them, and we are not allied with them. When we go to work we are selling our time and talent to an employer. That's basically it. If you can tolerate the boss in order to do what you want to continue doing, then go for it!
