It's been another fairly hectic day, but I did get some sleep this morning and afternoon. Daughter went to school today well once again, but came home griping that they were like gypsies, having class all over the school because the janitor had spilled chemicals in their regular classroom, so they couldn't have school in there because of the fumes.
I had a furry and unexpected surprise this morning in the bathroom. My cats like to pull the foot towel from the tub and play on it and under it, and generally laze about on the cloth. The three of them were gathered around the towel this morning, paying close attention to the towel itself. I thought it a bit odd, but they like to grab a ball shaped piece of dog food, bat it around for a bit around and under the towel until they decide to eat it. I sat on the toilet and a small gray furry thing with an inch long tail ran across the bathroom floor. I think I broke the world's record for fastest jump and found myself poised between the toilet and the tub. I yelled for R and he came to see what the commotion was. He lifted the towel and out scurried a small mole. The kitties batted at it while the little thing squeaked in terror. R scooped the mole up in the towel and set it free out in the yard.
I thought my experience with the rodent was over, but lo and behold I found where the little bugger has been hanging out. The window next to the computer was open slightly to cool me off and I kept hearing a scurrying sound. It has been a rough week so I thought maybe I was officially falling off my rocker. Not so, however. While on the phone with my mother, I glanced out the window and seen a small gray butt with an inch long tail run from my sight.
I have some things boxed and under a tarp on the covered porch. Upon further inspection, I see that a rodent has left a few calling cards, and after intensive detective work, realized that the furry little thing has been helping itself to the cat food in the dish on top of that tarp. We have a tom cat that stays outdoors and his food dish is up so that the dog doesn't eat his food when she is outside.
I guess I will carefully go through each box before I bring it indoors. The mole will have to find a whole in the house to burrow in. I'm sure there has to be spot where it got in this morning, so I should keep my eye out for gray furry things on the floor again (eyes rolled).
My mother had news about my dad this afternoon. Some of what was removed of my dad's colon was cancerous, but the doctor is confident that all of the cancer was removed and that my dad would not have to undergo chemotherapy or radiation. He would have to have a colonoscopy every six months to a year to monitor any changes in tissue. This news obviously is mostly a relief.
My dad does continue to have problems with his heart rate going up. My mom says he is on a blood pressure medicine that lowers his heart rate but also has his blood pressure a little low too. Consequently, my dad is feeling weak but has started a liquid diet. I think he should be feeling better tomorrow after getting some nourishment by mouth today.
Daughter is home from school and R is cooking dinner because I am just not in the mood. I'm glad it is Friday and the weekend. I just want to sit and vegetate. Tonight, I mean. I think we will watch movies later. Sounds like a good plan to me.
