Seasonal Observation

It’s becoming brighter earlier each morning now as I get up and make coffee and get the fire going.

Yesterday, I put away the last of the Christmas stuff – my tiny tree, the Nativity scene and the huge wreath from the front of the house has been taken down and stored away.

I'm having mixed feelings about it.

I’ll miss my little twinkling tree in the living room as it lit up and cheered me every morning as I sat sipping my coffee, praying, meditating, reading or writing.
Now instead, I’ll look out the glass patio door and watch the morning sunrise.

The soft blue outdoor lights that are strung up on the underside of the veranda all around the house, will stay up for now.
Being on a timer, they come on at 5:00pm and shut off at 9:00pm so they’re no bother.
They offer a warm glow to the house to folks walking or driving by.

I like that.

It isn’t a matter of being too lazy to take them down, it’s because they make me feel good when I walk out in the evening and see the subtle blue light that makes the house look so inviting and stately.

I truly believe that in the century old history of this house, no one has loved it more.

They say older homes have “character” and this one is no exception.
Other than the old farm house that I grew up in, this house makes me feel safe, secure and loved.
Older homes usually are a “work in progress” and that applies here as well.
But I swear with all we’ve done to repair and renew this house, it radiates a sense of gratitude.

I can feel it.

The Chrismas cheer I found in decorations now put away, will be replaced by breathtaking sunrises, evening patio lights, candles on the umbrella table, bright stars in the spring and summer night skies and the rush of the creek . . .
Ohhhhhh what a romantic I am!!

It's snowing like a bugger outside right now so this summer shot of my home will have to do . . . xxx

Old houses have such warmth and character. I have noticed the days are getting longer also.

I couldn't agree more--about loving "this old house". Me, too (see my photo).

I burn candles in my windows year-round, and I leave a number of holly and pine cone decorations up, too. I leave my snowmen decor stuff out until springtime. It's fun. I follow Dickens' advise to keep Christmas joy in our hearts all year long.

Your house does look inviting.
The designer/fixer upper in me always wanted to buy an older house but DH didn't agree.
