I’ve been busy gardening and re-nesting since I’ve been home from my Florida trip. I didn’t realize just how much I do around here!
Anyway, I took a break today and went into a nearby city to pick up some hanging plants for my newly renovated bedroom (which was done while I was away by my son J) and to check out the thrift shops for something I really needed only didn’t know it yet.
I drive an older car but I take care of it and it runs well.
Not having a/c, I had my windows up and down – trying to find that perfect driving temperature and without getting too much wind in that would give me a stiff neck!
The morning went along just fine.
I stopped for lunch at Taco Bell and had the #1 – two soft shelled tachos, fries (a real treat for me) and a soda. I didn’t want to be too long there since I had the newly selected hanging plants, perishable groceries and a bunch of other stuff that it wouldn’t make any difference to anyway , in the trunk and in the backseat of the car.
Time to head back to the hills of home.
There was more traffic than normal today since this is the Friday before the long weekend – July 1st weekend.
I decided to take the back roads home.
A huge gravel truck was heading towards me. I thought nothing of it. Then, BANG! Something hit my car – probably a rock or something. I checked my side mirror and everything seemed intact so I continued on home. I’d check for dents when I got there.
When I got home I gathered everything up and took it all into the house.
It looked like it might rain so I tried putting up the window on the drivers side and it went up so far – half way – then wouldn’t budge any further. What the ?
I didn’t want to force it in case I broke the glass and then I really got mad.
I tried and tried again and it just wouldn’t go all the way up. Something was preventing it. Ok, slow down, and let’s take a good look at what’s going on here.
I ran my finger inside the rubber slot where the edge of the window fits and lo and behold, I felt something inside!
With the help of needle nosed pliers I extracted a stone the size of a pea from inside the rubber slot! That’s what had prevented the window from going to the top and that’s what had flown up from the gravel truck and gone BANG!
That’s bad enough but as I sat in the drivers seat I noticed that the stone had flown in and embedded itself right at my eye level.
If that projectile had been at a slightly different angle, it would have taken my eye out.
So, I’m sitting here right now –happy that my car window will close since it’s starting to rain again and I’m really thankful that I have my vision enabling me to write and tell you about my afternoon adventure.
Party on (and never take your sight for granted!) xxx
