Home Schooling and the State of California

This is a home schooling issue of concern. I home schooled my son for K-3, and then again for 9&10th grades. Here in AZ you do not need to have a degree in education, and there is a strong Home School Association and many resources available.
However I have met some who say they home school their children and they mean let the kids do nothing all day while they work. In CA it could also be about protecting children, people will keep the kids at home while they do drugs and sell drugs. So many points of view.
Find out more.

The State of California court system has effectively outlawed home schooling in the state through a 3 member Court of Appeals ruling that parents must be 4 year educated certified teachers to teach their children.

This is potentially setting precedence for home schoolers across the United States.

If you are interested in helping, home schooling legal assistance organization is collecting signatures online to use to petition the court.

The Cal. Supreme Court, the next place this case will go, has historically been pretty proactive, even off-the-wall on occasion. Let's see what they do with this. I've often wondered how much damage, if any, is done to home schooled children who miss out on the life-preparation socialization they'd get in a normal school setting. It's all well and good to "protect" one's kids by keeping them away from the potential harms out there but, one day, they'll be thrust out into the world and have to deal with it.
