BashÅ was introduced to poetry at a young age, and after integrating himself into the intellectual scene of Edo he quickly became well known throughout Japan. He made a living as a
teacher, but renounced the social, urban life of the literary circles
and was inclined to wander throughout the country, heading west, east,
and far into the northern wilderness to gain inspiration for his
writing and haiku. His poems are influenced by his firsthand experience
of the world around him, often encapsulating the feeling of a scene in
a few simple elements.

BashÅ Quotes........
Do not seek to follow in the footsteps of the men of old; seek what they sought.
Do not seek to follow in the footsteps of the wise. Seek what they sought.
Every day is a journey, and the journey itself is home.
The moon is brighter since the barn burned.
The temple bell stops but I still hear the sound coming out of the flowers.
There is nothing you can see that is not a flower; there is nothing you can think that is not the moon.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
