The Man on the Moon ~ by Joseph Curiale

I just discovered that I’m "The Man on the Moon"...
That’s where I live.
It’s nice here...pretty quiet...but the loneliness is great,
especially on the dark side...
I get hit by meteors occasionally,
but I have managed to survive despite the hole in my head...
I have to be very careful living in a vacuum...
Very easy to get choked if I’m not careful...
Without some form of life support system, I’m a dead man...
Days are warm and nights are unbearably cold...
Large shifts in temperature...

I have a beautiful view of the world though...
I can see the Earth and the stars and everything's so crystal clear...
Too bad I had to go back to earth occasionally for supplies...
I run the risk of burning up in the atmosphere upon re-entry...
If I didn't protect myself in my space suit and helmet,
I could die you know...

Occasionally a technical glitch
makes me lose contact with the outside world,
but I have managed to learn how to fix the problems so far...
You must be very resourceful when you're "The Man on the Moon"...
There's nobody here to help if I need it...
I could scream or even die and no one would know...
Oh well, those are the risks we explorers choose to take...
It’s not everyone who can live on the moon!

Managing Loneliness
Addictive behavior is often an attempt to avoid the deeply painful
feeling of loneliness. Yet this inner abandonment leads to even more
problems. In this article, learn how to manage rather then avoid
the feeling of loneliness.

EXCERPT: Loneliness is an intense sad, sinking or burning feeling within. This feeling can be triggered by four different situations:
1. Loss of a loved one.
2. Not having a partner, family or friends with whom to share time and love.
3. Being around others but being closed off to them.
4. Being around others when they are closed off to you.
Other than a traumatic loss, the latter is often the most challenging in everyday life, and this can occur throughout the day. For example, you walk into work happy and open. You greet your friend, and he or she barely responds to you. If you are truly open to your own feelings, you will feel a stab of loneliness. Yet most people are so closed off to this feeling that they immediately attempt to avoid the feeling with some kind of addictive behavior. They might grab a donut while shaming or blaming - telling themselves that they must have done something wrong or that their friend is a jerk. These addictive behaviors are geared to protect against feeling the pain of the loneliness. And they work for the moment to appease the feeling, but the feeling doesn't actually go away. It just goes deeper within and may eventually cause physical symptoms, such as back pain or some form of illness."
