The Humming Birds are back. Love them as the "Bringer of JOY" Hummingbird can heal the saddest heart and make anyone glad to be alive again.
Hummingbird can heal any grief or pain.
When I see them I feel their joy and I know they are bringing me the message to smile and BE JOY-filled

Spirit Eagle, Hummingbird Song
I soar aloft, having found, at last, my spirit wings,
my soul set free to know and love my eagle heart.
Golden eagle, heart joined to Great Spirit
by fire of pain, by anguish, created anew in beauty.
Bird who flies to heaven with unmatched strength,
yet is the tender, loving mother bearing young
aloft on gentle wings to learn their glory for themselves.
The ferocity which more land-bound souls decry
is only that meant to protect, to defend, to live.
I am spirit eagle, soul of majesty and glory,
born by design to reflect the beauty of Great Loving Spirit.
I dart, invisibly winged, from stalk to deep-throated flower,
hovering to delight the unsuspecting who glimpse me there;
for I am Anna's hummingbird, dark teal around with head
and throat of fiery, glorious magenta, glistening in the sun.
Yet, pause along the sunny mountain trail, be still;
I am only hummingbird that sings, trilling out a gentle air,
a melody of love with earth and sky no other hummingbird shares.
I am spirit of restlessness, busy, quickly moving,
active in the springtime, through the summer days;
yet on that trail when one will pause, I will be perching there,
blessing Great Spirit for the beauty of my soul and self.
I am soul of beauty, eagle spirit soaring, lightened by the joy
that is the hummingbird heart, gift of living, gift of song.
The majesty that bears me up to fly through storms and pain
carries deep within the unexpected beauty of my soul's music.
I am radiant with the morning sun, shining clearly for all to see;
I am lovely as gold and amethyst mountain sunset, gently closing day.
Listen in the stillness, for my laughter echoes up and down the canyons,
soul of the mountain, heart of joy, bringer of peace.

The Lakota (and other indigenous nations) believe that every person has animal guides or totems that come into their lives to teach important lessons. Bears, eagles, buffalo, wolves and snakes are the most common spirit guides. Each animal is believed to have it's own special medicine and power to help it's chosen human develop what is needed in life. In theory, we are drawn to that which most resounds with us and those animals which fascinate us have some important lesson to teach us.
It is believed that Totem spirits of Animals reach us in dreams or dream-like states. It is my understanding, (though somewhat limited in this area) from what I have read, that these animals seek us out, we don't choose them. Each of these animals have qualities of their own. One is no more important than the other, although some people consider some more powerful or glamorous than others. Each one is believed to have their own special medicine and power to help us develop what we need in our own lives.
Interesting facts about Hummers:
Underneath those shining feathers is a body structure like no other bird. Their shoulder joint, for example, allows hummingbirds to twist their wings so they gain lift on both the forward and backward strokes. However, the motion alone is not enough for the bird to hover; it has to beat its wings in a sideways figure-eight between 20 and 80 strokes per second!
To drive a hummingbird’s wings, it dedicates about 30 percent of its body weight to its breast muscles, three times that of the weakest flying birds. To feed those muscles, hummers must consume approximately their body weight in nectar each day, driving the highest metabolic rate of any animal on Earth
The Hummingbird is the world's smallest bird.
Hummingbirds can reach speeds up to 60 miles an hour.
They lap nectar with their tongues.
The fastest wing-beat during normal flight belongs to the Sun Gem, a Hummingbird found in South America, is 90 beats per second. PER SECOND!
Hummingbirds do not have a sense of smell. They locate their food by eyesight.
A Hummingbird's egg is about the size of a pea.
A Hummingbird's heart beats 1,260 times per minute.
The adult male"bee Hummingbird" of Cuba is only 2.24 inches long. That's WITH the bill and tail! They only weigh 0.056 ounces.
