I'm never too tired to share special and scentual slumber
tips on 'Festival of Sleep Day.' There's one essential oil that I enjoy
above all others that assists in a wonderful night's sleep. I know you
think I'm going to say lavender or maybe even chamomile since both of
these are the more traditional oils used when trying to provoke a
pleasant night's slumber. The oil I am proposing is bergamot, a
beautifully calming agent with a delicious citrusy smell. Bergamot grows
on the sun-soaked coasts of Italy and is said to soothe the savage
beast and the frazzled soul! Speaking of the soul, bergamot is also
believed to be able to uplift that same part of you while also inspiring
and healing the wounded spirit. Bergamot has long been used to
holistically treat mild depression while also washing away everyday
tensions. Pour a few drops on a cotton ball and put that under your
pillow before going to sleep at night, or pour a few drops into the wash
when you're laundering your sheets for a more subtle but effective
permeating perfume for the perfect night's of sleep. A few words to the
wise: Use pure, non-synthetic bergamot oil and not bergamot mint and
don't leave this oil naked on the skin as it makes you much more
photosensitive to sunlight which could lead to burning. Now, if the only
thing burning is your desire to get a full forty winks, a few drops of
this essential oil will do that trick! Nighty night!

Happy Festival of Sleep Day!

Although
I haven’t been able to find the origin of Festival of Sleep Day, I
think it’s an excellent day to celebrate. After all, if you’re anything
like me, you’re exhausted from the holidays, and you need some rest. So
take advantage of this special day and catch a few extra Zs.
If you have trouble falling asleep, here are some tried-and-true relaxation techniques:
• Immerse yourself in prayer.
• Take a series of deep cleansing breaths.
• Alternately stretch and relax your muscles.
Ways to induce sleep through diet:
• Eliminate caffeine
• Eliminate processed sugar
• Eat whole grains and dairy.
• Eat foods with magnesium – fish, grains, nuts, and seeds
